Two technicians on one work order
A work order can have more than one person in charge, and both can run it at the same time, each on their own device. Nothing is lost because of that: the server merges what the two recorded.
This page explains how it merges, so you know what to expect before you split the job.
1. Which value wins
Section titled “1. Which value wins”| What both changed | What the server keeps |
|---|---|
| The same checklist field | The answer edited later. |
| The work order status | The furthest along. The status never goes back. |
| The start and the finish | The earliest start and the latest finish. |
| The secondary causes | Those of both, added up. |
| The primary cause | The one chosen later. |
What decides a field both answered is the time each one answered, not the time the device managed to upload. A technician who had no internet all morning does not erase the answer the other one gave after them.
The checklist of the work order also stops switching version once somebody has answered something, even if the admin saves a new version of the template.
2. What the app tells you
Section titled “2. What the app tells you”While you answer, the app shows what arrives from the other technician:
- Field Inlet pressure updated by another technician — their answer arrived and is on screen. With a registered name, the notice carries the name.
- Another technician changed this field. The latest edit wins. — it shows under the field you are editing. If you finish editing now, your answer is the latest one, and it is the one that stays.
- Finished by Carlos at 14:20. Your answers are still being sent. — the other technician finished the work order. What you already answered keeps going up.
When you tap Finalize WO on a work order the other one already finished, the screen asks in Work order already finished and offers Finish my part. The work order keeps the later of the two finish times.
3. What to do before you split the job
Section titled “3. What to do before you split the job”Agree on who answers which steps. The rules above stop you from losing work, but they do not stop double work: two technicians answering the same step spend twice the time for one result.
If you both have to touch the same field, the last one to answer is the one who stays on the work order. Check the value on screen before you leave the client.
4. Where the admin checks what was discarded
Section titled “4. Where the admin checks what was discarded”In the administrative panel, open the work order and go to the Audit tab. Every value the server discarded shows as Conflict resolved, with Kept value and Discarded value, the field, and who sent each one.
The What is a resolved conflict? link explains it on the screen itself: Two changes to this information arrived in conflict, for example from devices without internet. The system kept the right value and saved the other one here, for reference.
Use the Audit tab when a technician says they answered something that is not on the work order. The discarded value is recorded there, with the time.
